RTR projects triumphs at Slovakia Ring, demonstrating GT2 potential

Victory in Saturday’s sprint by Reinhard Kofler in both the GTX class and overall GT standings, coupled with two additional silver finishes, marked a stellar weekend for RTR Projects and their new KTM X-Bow GT2 at the Slovakia Ring. The team showcased the car’s ability to compete with the top-tier GT3 class.

“Our car proved it can challenge the fastest GT cars and even beat them. That’s why we came to the Slovakia Ring, and I’m glad our expectations were met despite strong competition. No one has driven a KTM faster here than we did,” said team owner Tomáš Miniberger, reflecting on the weekend’s success.

The highlight was Reinhard Kofler’s performance in Saturday’s sprint race. The KTM factory driver dominated the race, leading from start to finish. He claimed first place in both the GTX class and the overall GT classification. Impressively, Kofler held the lead over Miro Konopka’s Ligier LMP3 prototype during the opening laps.

RTR Projects nearly secured another overall victory in the hour-long endurance race. Kofler led the pack from the start, defending against Dennis Waszka in a BMW M6 GT3 and maintaining the lead throughout the first stint.
However, pit stops proved decisive. A fueling issue caused delays for the team, ultimately relegating Tomáš Miniberger to second in the GTX class and fourth overall by the end of the race.

Sunday’s sprint brought another silver medal for RTR Projects, with Miniberger finishing second in the GTX class. The team left Slovakia Ring satisfied with the car’s progression and competitive performance.

“We made significant progress with the car. Both we and the drivers trust it, which was evident in the race pace. It was a fantastic weekend with beautiful weather and flawless organization,” noted team executive Tomáš Fanta. He also praised Kofler’s contribution, emphasizing the benefits for the entire team, including Miniberger, who matched competitive pace despite this being his first major outing of the season.

Preparing for the future

RTR Projects wasted no time after the Slovakia Ring. On Monday, the team began testing their KTM X-Bow GT2 at the Brno Circuit, continuing into Tuesday as part of preparations for the Zeknova Carbonia Cup.

Fanta confirmed the team’s ongoing plans for the ESET Cup, including appearances at Most, Slovakia Ring, and Brno, competing with both GTX and GT2 cars.

The ultimate goal is to prepare the KTM X-Bow GT2 for the Fanatec GT2 European Series, where it is expected to debut in select events this year. RTR Projects already fields a car in the championship, with Czech driver Jan Krabec winning the amateur title in 2023. This year, Krabec teams up with professional drivers in the Pro-Am class, having achieved a victory and a third-place finish at the season opener in Le Castellet alongside Maťo Homola.
