GTX Endurance Champions: RTR projects Seal Central European Title at Masaryk Racing Days

Second place that was worth its weight in gold. Jaroslav Honzík and Viktor Mráz secured the GTX Endurance Championship title at the penultimate round of this year’s GT Cup Series in Brno. The RTR projects crew were able to celebrate their overall success in a truly special atmosphere, sealing the title on their team’s home circuit.

“The goal has been achieved. Viktor and Jarda are already GTX Endurance Champions here in Brno,” said RTR projects Executive Director Tomáš Fanta after Saturday’s endurance race. The result gave his team a double podium finish. Alongside the runner-up result for Jaroslav Honzík and Viktor Mráz, the Brno-based team also claimed third place in the GTX class, courtesy of Tomáš Miniberger and Daniel Skalický in a KTM X-Bow GT2. “The race featured a full grid, and the atmosphere was fantastic as well. It was a really great day of racing,” Fanta noted.

RTR projects headed into the Brno race weekend in a strong position. Viktor Mráz and Jaroslav Honzík held a solid 37-point lead over Adam Konopka in the standings. The Slovak-Czech pairing had built that advantage with fourth place at Red Bull Ring, victory in the June three-hour race at Slovakia Ring, another win at Most in August, and a runner-up finish at the August round in Slovakia. Heading into the Brno event, the crew knew that a top-three finish would be enough to secure the championship with a round to spare, guaranteeing them the title ahead of October’s visit to Hungaroring.

Honzík and Mráz took an important step towards the title already in qualifying. On a wet track, they qualified fifth overall and second in the GTX class. Jaroslav Honzík then built on that strong start during the opening stint, putting together an impressive fight for position.

“I really enjoyed the first 30 minutes. Everything was absolutely perfect,” said Honzík, clearly enjoying himself behind the wheel of his GTX car. “There was nobody around me, so I could take it relatively easy. After the start, I watched a great battle unfolding ahead of me. After that, we just focused on our own race and managed the pace,” Honzík explained.

At the halfway point, Honzík handed the wheel of the purple KTM over to his teammate Viktor Mráz, who then brought their promising drive to a successful conclusion. The result was not only fifth place overall and second in the GTX class, but, most importantly, the endurance title in the category.

“It was incredible to see so many motorsport fans here on home soil,” said Honzík, soaking up the unique atmosphere of the Masaryk Racing Days, which hosted the penultimate round of the GT Cup Series. “I’m simply thrilled. The car was perfect, and it was a truly fantastic weekend,” he added enthusiastically.

In the GTX class, Honzík and Mráz were beaten only by Adam Konopka in Brno. The Slovak driver competed in an open Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo II and, just as he had at Slovakia Ring in late August, underlined his status as the class favourite. He even made it onto the overall podium, finishing third.

“We set ourselves realistic goals, and I’m pleased that we managed to achieve them,” added Tomáš Fanta. “Our aim was not to push too hard and, above all, to get through the opening laps of the race. There was a lot of fighting going on during that phase,” Fanta explained, outlining the team’s strategy. He also praised the discipline shown by the packed field. “The safety car didn’t come out even once. There were no yellow flags, no contact, nothing. It was a really clean and well-driven race from everyone,” he highlighted.

For Tomáš Miniberger and Daniel Skalický, who finished seventh overall, it was their third podium finish of the season in the GTX class. The experienced pairing had achieved the same result at Most in July and again at Slovakia Ring in August. They also hold third place in the standings heading into the final race of the season, which will take place at Hungaroring in Hungary on 23–25 October.

Tomáš Fanta insists that, despite already having the title secured, RTR projects will approach the final event of the season with the same commitment they have shown throughout the year. “We’ll also use it as a test. Hungaroring will be part of the GT2 European Series calendar in 2027, so we want to be prepared,” Fanta says.

RTR projects will now turn its attention back to the GT2 European Series. The team will head to the penultimate round of the season in Zandvoort, Netherlands, next weekend, with plenty still at stake. Viktor Mráz currently sits second in the Masters standings, while Petr Lisa and Ondřej Rokos are in third.
