High-intensity summer prep continues: RTR Projects sends KTM and Mercedes to the Slovakia Ring

RTR Projects is entering the penultimate round of this year’s GT Cup Series at the Slovakia Ring not only with the same driver line-up as in Most, but also with the same objectives — preparing for the final phase of the GT2 European Series.

“Our main goal is to test and try out setup changes,” outlined team CEO Tomáš Fanta ahead of the Slovakian weekend. He’s confident his drivers won’t be short of competitive action. The GTX class will be the most heavily contested at Orechová Potôň — seven cars in the endurance race and ten in the sprints. “I expect we’ll race just as well as we did at Most, and we’re looking forward to some exciting battles. It might rain a little on Friday, but the race days look promising,” he added.

The Mercedes-AMG GT2 will represent RTR Projects in all the weekend races — both 25-minute sprints and the Saturday endurance event. Ondřej Rokos will take the wheel for the sprint races, with Petr Lisa joining him only for the hour-long endurance race. The reason is simple.

“The key is for Ondra to rack up as many kilometres as possible and gain the experience he’ll need for the final two rounds of the GT2 European Series,” explained Petr Lisa, the more experienced driver of the pair, who will also act as a coach for Rokos. The opportunity is, of course, very welcome. “I still need to practise starts and all the other situations that can come up. I want to spend as much time in the car as possible,” Rokos confirmed.

The 2025 season has already delivered several highlights for the Czech duo. In the first four rounds of the GT2 European Series, Lisa and Rokos claimed three podium finishes in the AM class. Although Rokos missed the next two rounds at Spa-Francorchamps and Misano to spend time with his family following the birth of his daughter, he reunited with his team-mate for racing in Most in July after a two-month break. There, the crew were in contention for a podium in the endurance race, only to be denied by a technical issue.

Lisa and Rokos will have plenty to fight for in the final two rounds of the GT2 European Series, at Valencia (19–21 September) and Barcelona (10–12 October). Lisa currently sits third in the championship standings, a position he secured not only through strong performances alongside Rokos, but also thanks to successful outings in the KTM X-Bow GT2 with Viktor Mráz. Their most notable success came in the second race at Spa-Francorchamps, which they won in the AM classification.

Tomáš Miniberger will also be preparing for the final part of the GT2 European Series in Slovakia, competing in the endurance race with the KTM X-Bow GT2. “Tomáš enjoys the Slovakia Ring, and in the past he’s not only set impressive lap times here but also achieved strong results,” said Tomáš Fanta.

During his outing, Miniberger can look forward to, among other things, a “big Austrian battle.” In addition to his KTM, three more of the brand’s machines will be on track. MZR Motorsportzentrum Ried will field two more GT2 cars for Max Grip and the pairing of Marius Aigner and Reinhard Kofler, while Viktor Mráz will compete in the X-Bow GTX.

“We’re really looking forward to racing against the other KTMs. There will be plenty of them here, so we can’t miss the chance,” added Tomáš Fanta.

The Slovakia Ring measures 5,922 metres and features 14 corners — seven left-handers and seven right-handers. The circuit offers not only fast sections but also demanding technical segments. Its signature feature is a series of three crests.

Saturday’s sprint will get underway at 14:10, followed by the endurance race at 17:20. Sunday’s sprint race is scheduled for 13:05.
